Liban Quarry was owned by two prominent Jewish families from 1873. At the time of Nazi occupation the quarry became a labour camp for inmates of the nearby Płaszów concentration camp. In 1992 it was used as the location for Płaszów camp in Spielbergs film ‘Schindler’s List’. Very little remains of the labour camp, however, the knowledge of what happened and the remnants from the film set make this now overgrown animal sanctuary a sad, eerie and beautiful tribute to the lives lost in WWII.
